I'm thinking of running K-Billing on two laptops is it possible to hold the data file(s) at a web location so that both laptops have the same updated info ?

You can host the file on a shared network drive but be aware that doing that over a VPN is going to be slow! Shared drives on a local network work very well, though.

OK is it possible to merge the data files from two laptops into one ?

My wife and daughter have started a new business working from their respective homes and need to generate quotes and invoices. These can be kept seperate I suppose but would be better to keep updated as a single file as the business grows. What would you recommend ?

No.

The best thing I can suggest is to only do billing from a single computer (or network). A web based invoicing tools would allow anyone to access it from anywhere and I've been giving serious thought to a web based version of kBilling but those plans are just on the drawing board at this point.
